So, has everyone watched the BBC "Sherlock" that aired on Sunday night? Consider this your thread for discussing queer themes in it. Comments will undoubtedly contain spoilers!

(Speaking for myself, I'm halfway through it, and making high-pitched squeaking noises.)

YESSSS GOD.

Okay. That scene in the preview that was talked about in your DW, where Holmes says he's married to his work? So so gay in actuality-- nothing at all like the "so we agree and would like to tell the audience there's nothing gay about either of us" scene that was expected. I don't see how it can be read as other than an admission of being queer if not also asexual.

EVERYONE THINKS THEY'RE GETTING MARRIED

I really love this show.

Yeah, I honestly can't come up with another reading for that scene than "gay but not interested in a relationship".

And yet there's an article where both Holmes' actor and the writer(s) deny that there could be anything gay about Holmes, so idk what they thought they were writing that scene to mean.

I wouldn't even know where to begin. I think my favourite part was Mrs. Hudson pointing out the second bedroom, in the unlikely case Holmes and Watson might need it. "There's all sorts around here," indeed.

So far I've only seen the trailer, with the scene at the restaurant. I was amused by it at first, but on reflection I wonder whether the whole "someone thinks I'm gay"/"not that there's anything wrong with it" might have been funny when Seinfeld did it, but a little bit out-of-date now.

A friend of mine described the episode as "not gay but slashy," which makes me somewhat wary. I'm still interested in seeing it though.

Everybody seems to assume that Holmes is gay and therefore Watson his boyfriend and he never denies it, he merely seems to think his job is more important than a relationship, which I think fits the character.
